I’m feeling a little sorry for January 2. It’s not a day that gets a lot of attention. And, much to it’s chagrin, the only real claim to fame it’s got is that it’s the first day of everyone’s New Year resolutions. January 2 is the much maligned and dreaded day when we need to start using our new gym memberships, or put down the pack of smokes.
It’s a grumpy, tired day. Most years, we’ve all gone back to work and school, and the holidays are over. The tree has been long kicked to the curb, and the white of Christmas has taken on a grungy, gray cast of January. Or at least it has here. In Auckland the weather is 75 degrees and sunny. Maybe January 2 is a pleasant, happy day if you’re a Kiwi.
January 2 is a good day for patience and a smile. Remember the grumpy, unpleasant folks out there today are simply contemplating the changes they promised themselves they’d make and reality is setting in.
Not me though. I’m moving to New Zealand.
